You can skin your knee, and it will heal without cleaning it out. But it may eventually infect your entire body. Emotional trauma is a lot like that: You can ignore its effects, but it may ultimately impact your entire life in negative ways, with symptoms popping up when you least expect it.

I provide counseling for all ages, 4 and up, across a wide range of mental health challenges. I draw upon multiple evidence-based treatments as needed, such as person-centered therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). My special interests lie in treating trauma, dissociation, and attachment wounds in children and adults. I am Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy trained and actively seeking EMDR certification. EMDR is a revolutionary treatment for trauma, depression, and anxiety as well as many other mental health conditions. I use both standard and alternative EMDR protocols, such as Attachment-Focused EMDR. EMDR can help your memory integrate experiences it has not been able to integrate on its own. Think of it as a “do-over” for your nervous system that can help you move forward to enjoy your best life.

As a spouse, mother, grandmother, former single parent, and former public-school teacher, I know that there are no easy answers to many of life’s serious problems. But you can heal from your past with the right treatment and persistence. It is my hope I can be a part of your journey.
